From page 153 of Uninvited by Justine Musk
It felt good to be moving, good to be outside. The air was sharp and fresh from last night's rain. The mist drifted in the street and she caught motion inside it.

I am really enjoying Uninvited so far. It is so different than any other book I have ever read. I can get so tired of reading books with the same plot over and over. This is not one of those books, though. Justine Musk is a new author for me and I think I might look into her other books after this one just because it is so original.

Also, a couple random updates. I got my second Lemonade Stand Award from Meggin at Serendipity Book Reviews. She has been blogging for about 5 months now and she has some great stuff on her blog. If you haven't already checked it out you should!

As for my 100 followers contest, it will be soon. I am still trying to figure out how I plan on doing it and which books I am going to be giving away. It will be a multiple book contest, I just have to figure out which ones. Also, it looks like it will be closer to 150 follower contest. I am at 133 now and more people keep following each day which is so amazing. It means so much to know that people actually read what I have to say. Thanks guys!

Girlfriend Material

Book: Girlfriend Material by Melissa Kantor

Rating: 4 Stars

Release Date: May 5

Summary:
If Kate were Lady Brett Ashley, the devastating heroine of Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises, she'd spend her summers careering around the Riviera in her coupe, breaking hearts by the dozen--because why not? In reality, Kate's never even had a boyfriend, and she'll be spending the summer abetting her mom's lame ploy to make her dad jealous: running off to Cape Cod and crashing at the seaside home of her wealthy friends, the Cooper-Melnicks. To add to the shame, the Cooper-Melnicks' gorgeous daughter Sarah is a bit like Lady Brett, and she seems less than thrilled to hang out with her new houseguest. Any dreams Kate once had of a perfect summer are ruined.

That is, until Sarah's cute, witty friend Adam starts drawing Kate into the fold--and seems intrigued. With Adam around, Kate feels like she just might have a bit of heartbreaker potential after all. But when a breezy summer romance quickly grows more complicated can Kate keep pretending her relationship with Adam is just a carefree fling? Or will she take the risk and tell him her real feelings? Suddenly Kate is asking herself a question she never thought she'd stoop to: Is she girlfriend material?

Overall:
Kate has always wanted to be Lady Brett Ashley. She has always wanted the guys to be all over her. She has always wanted to be cool and sophisticated. She never wanted to be the shy girl who gets tongue-tied around any cute boys she may happen to meet in her hometown of Salt Lake City.

Then, things change. Kate is forced to spend her summer with her mom at an old friends beach house on Cape Cod. Things look horrible from the get go. Her parents marriage seems to be breaking up, the only person she knows on Cape Cod turns out to be a giant witch, and she gets stuck giving tennis lessons to the nastiest teenager on Cape Cod. Could things possibly get any worse?

Yup. She could fall for the wrong guy who makes her think that maybe she doesn't want the summer to end. She could fall for the wrong guy who makes her feel like Lady Brett Ashley. How could anything good possibly come of this?

Okay, first off, this is the first book I have ever read by Melissa Kantor so I wasn't sure what to expect. I loved it. I plan on reading more of her books as soon as I can get my hands on them. Girlfriend Material was cute, funny, romantic, and everything I could possibly want in a good summer read.

Kate was such a likable character, as was Adam. They were just so cute and easy to relate to. Kate was so much like me. She was just so confused by guys. She had no clue how to act around them or even how to talk to them. It was like reading about myself, a little. Adam was also one of my favorite characters. He was so sweet and seemed like he would make the perfect summer boyfriend. I just kept turning the pages, hoping everything would work out in the end.

While the story of Girlfriend Material isn't exactly a new one, it was still a very good one. It's the perfect summer read, whether you are at the beach, the pool, or even stuck at home. I definitely recommend it and I could even see myself rereading this one.

The Bought:
The Giver by Lois Lowry
The Secrets of Boys by Hailey Abbott

So, this week I got a lovely package from Egmont publishing which is where I got all of the books except Shiver. I got my first 2010 books, too. Brightly Woven, The Cinderella Society, and Epitaph Road are all going to be released in either March or April of next year and they all sound great. I pretty much squealed when I saw all the books. The Dark Divine, Candor, and Little Black Lies were ones that I had been wanting to read so badly.

Also, I managed to restrain myself this week and only bought two books but those were from Goodwill so they don't count. =] I'm trying really hard not to buy books but I just can't seem to help myself. Also, my parents were amazing and bought me an Ipod Touch this week. I just got it last night and I love it. I will never by an mp3 player that is not an Ipod. I just love them.

So, how were everyone else's weeks?

Wings

Book: Wings by Aprilynne Pike

Rating: 5 Stars

Release Date: May 1, 2009

Summary:

Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful—too beautiful for words.

Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.

In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

Overall:

Laurel always knew she was different but it becomes even more clear when she is forced by her parents to go to public school. She knows she doesn't fit in but luckily she meets David. David is a bit of a science geek but at least he has friends.

Laurel finally begins to feel like she might fit in in this new world of high school and relationships until she finds out something that will change her life forever. At least, her life in the human world.

Will Laurel be able to split her life into the realms of humans and fairies or will she be forced to choose? And if so, which will she choose?

Wings is Aprilynne Pike's debut novel and I was captivated with the story from page one. I mean who wouldn't be drawn into a world of fairies, trolls, battles, and romance?

The whole story of Laurel and her families, the humans and the fairies, was such a magical story. The characters just seemed to jump off the pages and I was drawn into the book, wondering what was going to happen next and which world Laurel would choose as her own. I couldn't put it down.

I won't give away the ending but I will tell you that it is a total cliffhanger. There are set to be 4 books in the series and I already can't wait for the next one. I just want to continue the story so bad. It was just amazing work and Aprilynne Pike deserves everyone of the five stars that I have given her book!

If you haven't already picked up a copy of this book, you should get right on it. It is the perfect read for a summer day.

Waiting On Wednesday: Secret Society

Book: Secret Society by Tom Dolby

Release Date: October 1, 2009

Summary:
Do you ever wonder how some people have it so easy? The best schools, the hottest parties, the priciest clothes, the easiest jobs?

Maybe it’s not because they work hard or get a lucky break every once in a while.

Maybe it’s because they’re part of a secret club. A secret society.

Phoebe and Nick and Lauren didn’t ask to be society members. They already had it pretty good at New York’s exclusive Chadwick Prep. But after they heard—were assured—of success and ease beyond belief, they say yes to everything. Even to the harrowing initiation ceremony in a gritty warehouse downtown. And the ankh-shaped tattoo they’re forced to get on the nape of their necks.

The instant they become members, everything falls into place. Nick gets a club gig. Lauren’s jewelry designs are a hit. Phoebe has her own gallery show. It’s all perfect—until a body is found in Central Park. With no distinguishing marks...except for an ankh-shaped tattoo.

I have been waiting on this one for a while now. It sounds so mysterious and definitely like something I will love. Also, I just love the cover. It's so pretty. I can't wait until October when it's released.

What are you waiting on this week?

Random Question About E-Books

Have any of you guys ever read a book online? Simon Pulse has the new Pulse IT program but instead of sending out the books they have them online. I am currently reading Pure as you can see in my sidebar but I am only about 30 pages in and I can't stand reading it on the computer. For one, I don't like sitting in front of the computer for long periods of time and the screen bugs my eyes.

What about you guys? Are you okay with reading books online or do you only read print versions?

From page 43 of Wings by Aprilynne Pike
That night Laurel sat on the vanity in her bathroom staring at her back. Tears slid down her cheeks as she again smeared salve all over it. It hadn't done anything before, and logic told her it wouldn't do anything this time--but she had to try something.

Wings is so different than any fairy tale I have read before. So far I am loving it. I hope I can finish it tonight so I can have a review posted tomorrow. Also, don't forget that I am giving away a copy of it here.

Susan McBride Interview + Contest

Susan McBride is the author of The Debs series which currently includes The Debs and The Debs: Love, Lies, and Texas Dips. The third book,The Debs: Gloves Off will be released in March 2010. She is also the author of the adult Debutante Dropout mystery series.

KBB: Was there a certain person in your life who influenced your love of writing?

SM: Hmm, I think loving books was in my genes as my mom and grandma were book lovers. I do remember being read to often when I was really little, and I learned to read and write before pre-school. It was heavenly, picking up a thick pencil and scribbling in a Big Chief pad. I wrote stories in grade school, even a couple of books in fifth grade (I still have them!). Writing sort of flowed out of me, like I was meant to do this.

KBB: When did you discover that you wanted to write books for a living?

SM: It wasn't until I was in college. I knew I loved writing, but I seriously never considered, "Hey, I can do this as a career." My dad really wanted me to major in business in college. So I was pre-business at UT-Austin my freshman year, taking micro- and macro-economics, Calculus, all these math-related classes I hated. I was miserable. It wasn't until I took a year off college before transferring to the University of Kansas Journalism School, that I had an epiphany. Driving to my grandparents for Christmas that year with my family, I heard a voice in my head saying, "I will write a book." So I did. I wrote about a 600-page historical romance called THE THORN OF THE ROSE. It never got published, but I did submit it to editors, and I got some very encouraging rejection letters (including a few requests to revise and resubmit). When I went to KU, I took creative writing classes as electives while getting my public relations major. I wrote a book a year after I graduated from college, all different genres, and had various agents represent them. But nothing sold. So I entered a darker suspense novel, AND THEN SHE WAS GONE, in some contests back in the late 1990s. It ended up being a finalist in the St. Martin's Press Malice Domestic competition, won the National Writers Association's Best Novel contest, and won a contest sponsored by a small press with a prize of publication. AND THEN SHE WAS GONE came out in 1999 with a print run of about 2,500 and sold out. It was reprinted and that same small press published my second dark mystery, OVERKILL. That's how I met a New York agent who got my first three-book deal with Avon, and I haven't stopped working since.

KBB: Did you ever consider another profession if writing didn't work out? If so, what was it?

SM: Honestly, I didn't consider doing anything else once I realized "I am a writer." I knew I would keep writing and trying to get published, even if I was on a walker by the time it happened. I did learn how to do medical transcription (via on the job training!), and I was very good at it. I could work that job part-time, pay my bills, and write without too much trouble. But I didn't want to be a transcriptionist my whole life. I had great faith it would happen for me someday. It just took hard work, persistence, and a little luck.

KBB: What do you consider the best moment in your career?

SM: The thing that stands out the most is having BLUE BLOOD come out in 2004 to no fanfare whatsoever. It was a mass market paperback original, which traditionally means zero hoopla (or print reviews, for that matter), and it sold out its first printing of 25,000 even before its publication date. It was in a third printing within a few months, and it's kept going back to press ever since. BLUE BLOOD turned the corner for me. It enabled me to sign a second contract with Avon for enough of an advance that I could write full-time. It was nominated for several mystery awards, and it won one of them. I feel like it provided the momentum for me to surge ahead after working so hard for so many years. I still love that book!

KBB: Were you a deb when you were growing up?

SM: I wasn't a deb, but I knew plenty of them. I went to school in Houston with girls who debuted at River Oaks Country Club. I also pledged Pi Beta Phi at the University of Texas and had many Highland Park debs from Dallas in my pledge class. I was invited to deb balls, but I was pretty much an observer not a participant. Sometimes, I think with writing, it's nice to have that space between real-life and fiction. So not everything I write about is something I personally experienced. But I've lived long enough to have done a lot, seen a lot, and just absorbed a lot. It's fun using a little of what I've learned from my real-life and embellishing it with my imagination to create people and situations for my books.

KBB: Are any of your characters based on people you know or knew in your past?

SM: Um, can I plead the Fifth so I don't say anything to incriminate myself? Seriously, yes, I take bits and pieces of people I've known and often incorporate them into characters. With The Debs, I used names I loved of girls I went to high school with in Houston, like Jo Lynn and Laura. I knew a girl named Ginger in college who was very nice and very granola (for the time). So it felt right to use it on Ginger in The Debs.

KBB: Do you have a favorite character from The Debs books?

SM: Yikes, that's like asking a mother which of her children she loves best! I adore them all for different reasons. I love Laura's openness and how willing she is to take chances with her heart, even if she knows she's doomed to failure. I like how sensitive Mac is beneath her sarcastic surface. She's having a hard time learning to trust, and I identify with that. Ginger has such a romantic side and wants to believe in people, and she really cares about the world around her. Those are all characteristics I admire. Jo Lynn's a different story. She's been raised by a very demanding mom on the stage of Texas beauty pageants. It's no wonder she needs her life to be so perfect, and she's so afraid of messing up. She sees Laura as her fun-house mirror image (all the things she's most frightened of), which is why she's bent on destroying her. But her perfect, orderly world can't last forever. I really like the boys in the books, too. There's a lot more to them as well than meets the eye.

KBB: I know there is another book planned after Love, Lies, and Texas Dips. Are there going to be anymore after that and if not are you planning on writing any more YA books?

SM: Yes, GLOVES OFF comes out next March, and that was by far the most fun and challenging of the books to write. More and more is revealed about these girls and their lives, and everyone's in for a lot of changes. I do have another book due to Random House, and I have a new editor there now. So I might be taking a different direction for awhile. A lot depends on how things go with these first two Debs books. But I'm just happy to be writing, whether it's a series or a stand-alone. It's exciting to try new things, and I'm always game for an adventure! Readers can check my web site at SusanMcBride.com for more scoop. I keep it updated with book news and contests, so drop on by and see what's up!

KBB: Thanks so much, Susan! I can't wait to read Gloves Off. Readers here is your chance to win both The Debs and The Debs: Love, Lies, and Texas Dips. I have signed copies of each book for one reader. All you have to do is leave a comment here about the interview. Extra entries are as follows:

+1 leave comment
+1 become a follower
+2 already a follower
+2 for commenting on my review of The Debs 1 or 2 or both
+3 post a link on your blog (sidebar is fine)

So, in all you can get 10 entries if you do everything. Don't forget to state everything that you have done in your comment! This contest is open until July 10 so you have a little over two weeks to enter.

The Debs: Love, Lies, and Texas Dips

Book: The Debs: Love, Lies, and Texas Dips by Susan McBride

Rating: 5 Stars

Release Date: June 9

Summary:
The Debs are back!

Now that her dream of becoming a deb is finally coming true, Laura’s confidence is at an all-time high. But when she dares to mess with Jo Lynn’s football star boyfriend, Dillon, Laura finds herself at the center of some heinous gossip.

As predicted, becoming a deb is a shallow undertaking that Mac can barely muddle through. Still, things go from bad to worse when the new girl at school starts working her charms on Mac’s best friend, Alex. When Ginger’s grandmother asks her to sit for a formal portrait with the son of a local legend, she discovers that she already knows him—and what she knows isn’t good.

The stakes are raised for Jo Lynn when she finds Laura’s digits in Dillon’s cell phone. Is her boyfriend cheating on her with a debu-tank? She will soon find out.

Overall:
Laura, Mac, Ginger, and Jo Lynn are finally in. Now they have to figure out how to stay in. Or in Jo Lynn's case how to get some one else kicked out. Jo Lynn refuses to allow Laura any peace of mind and does everything she can to kick her out. She will stop at nothing to get what she wants and nothing is off limits.

Laura, Mac, and Ginger have many other things to worry about other than just Jo Lynn. Laura has to try and fix things with Avery, Mac realizes she might have feelings for her best guy friend, and Ginger once again picked the wrong guy for her.

Will things ever settle down for the Three Amigas? Will Jo Lynn finally give up her grudge against Laura Bell or will she finally succeed in getting Laura kicked out of the Glass Slipper Club?

The second installment of The Debs trilogy was even better than the first. Susan McBride has brought back the wonderful characters from the first book and has even begun to develop some of the more background characters.

The Debs: Love, Lies, and Texas Dips was a wonderful read, full of drama, romance, and even a little bit of mystery. Susan McBride definitely left me guessing as to why Avery is at Jo Lynn's beck and call and why Dillon hasn't been paying that much attention to Jo Lynn lately. You begin to find out a little more about that in this book but it won't be fully clear till March 2010 when the third and final book is released.

Overall, the second Debs book was a wonderfully written follow-up to the first and I am so eager for the third installment. If you are looking for a fun read full of romance, deception, and drama pick up a copy of The Debs: Love, Lies and Texas Dips!

The Debs: Love, Lies, and Texas Dips can be ordered here.

Summary:
Alfonso Perplexon is an unusual sleeper. He climbs trees, raises falcons, even shoots deadly accurate arrows, all in his sleep. No one can figure out why.
Then one evening a man arrives at Alfonso's door, claiming to be Alfonso's long-lost uncle Hill. This uncle tells a fantastical tale: Alfonso's ancestors hail from Dormia—an ancient kingdom of gifted sleepers—which is hidden in the snowy peaks of the Ural Mountains. According to Hill, Dormia exists thanks to a tree known as the Founding Tree, with roots that pump life into the frozen valley. But the Founding Tree is now dying, and in a matter of days, Dormia faces an icy apocalypse.
Dormia's salvation lies with the Great Sleeper, who possesses the special powers to enter a sleep trance and grow a new Founding Tree. Hill suspects that Alfonso is just such a person. In fact, Alfonso's sleeping-self has already hatched this tree. Now the question is: Can Alfonso and his uncle deliver it in time? They must hurry, but they also must be careful not to be followed by Dormia's age-old enemy, the Dragoonya, who are always hunting for one of the secret entryways into Dormia.
Alfonso agrees to take the tree to Dormia, and thus begins one of the greatest adventures a twelve-year-old boy could ever wish for.

Summary:
You would think Petronella’s sixteenth birthday would be cause for celebration. After all, fashionable friends are arriving at her country estate near London, teas are being served, and her coming out party promises to be a resplendent affair. Everything is falling nicely into place, until, suddenly—it isn’t. For Petronella discovers that her guardian, Uncle Augustus T. Percival, has developed a most unVictorian compulsion: He must eat bugs. Worse still, because he is her guardian, Uncle Augustus is to attend her soiree and his current state will most definitely be an embarrassment.
During the festivities, when Petronella would much rather be sharing pleasantries with handsome Lord James Sinclair (swoon), important guests are disappearing, kidnapping notes are appearing, many of the clues are insects, and Uncle Augustus is surreptitiously devouring evidence. It’s more than one sixteen-year-old girl should have to deal with. But, truth be told, there is far more yet to come . . .

Summary:
There’s something about the new guy at Crossroads High . . .

Most sixteen-year-olds have friends. Aden Stone has four human souls living inside him:

One can tell the future.
And one can possess another human.

With no other family and a life spent in and out of institutions, Aden and the souls have become friends. But now, they’re causing him all kinds of trouble.

Like, he’ll blink and suddenly he’s a younger Aden, reliving the past. One wrong move, and he’ll change the future. Or, he’ll walk past a total stranger and know how and when she’s going to die.

He’s so over it. All he wants is peace.

And then he meets a girl who quiets the voices. Well, for as long as he’s with her. Why? Mary Ann Gray is his total opposite. He’s a loner; she has friends. So, while last week was a bit of a book slump, this week was a great book week. I can't wait to read Intertwined and I am currently in the middle of the second Debs book which is even better than the first, so far. Expect a review tomorrow and an interview with the author on Monday. Also, keep your eyes open for another giveaway because I finally reached 100 followers!

The Young City

Book: The Young City by James Bow (The Unwritten Books #3)

Rating: 5 Stars

Release Date: November 24, 2008

Summary:

Rosemary Watson and Peter McAllister think their future is clear: they’re finally heading off for university. They’re thinking about finding apartments, picking courses, living like adults.

But what happens when the future becomes the past? While helping Rosemary’s brother move into an apartment in Toronto, Peter and Rosemary fall into an underground river and are swept back in time, to Toronto in 1884. It’s a struggle to survive and adapt to the alien culture of the late nineteenth century. Peter and Rosemary are forced to work together, to live together, and to become the adults they’ve only been pretending to be.

As the days stranded turn to weeks, then months, Rosemary and Peter begin to wonder if they’re really ready for a future together - and what they will do if they can’t get back.

Then someone brings them a watch, powered by a battery, made in Taiwan.

Overall:

Rosemary and Peter are finally together at least for a little while. They are both going on to separate colleges but they know that they can make it work. There is nothing that can ruin what they have going or at least that what's they think.

While helping Rosemary's brother Theo move into his apartment, they fall through a hole in the floor into a river. A river that takes them back in time, to the year 1884. Luckily, a brother and sister are kind enough to take them into their home, at least until they can find a way back to the future. Soon, though things start going wrong. No matter where they look, Rosemary and Peter can't find the portal and Rosemary isn't sure that Peter is all she needs in her life.

How long have they actually been missing? Will they ever make it home and if not, will Rosemary be able to be happy with only Peter?

I have to say that this was the best book of the three. I was so captivated by the story of Rosemary and Peter that I had trouble putting the book down. It was so well written and vivid.

Rosemary and Peter have truly grown since the first book. They are now eighteen and about to enter college, full of dreams about their future. Both of their characters were so well-developed that this book doesn't have to be read with the other two. You get a feel of their history together just by how they act and it is so believable and sweet.

Also, the supporting characters were amazingly well-developed. At first I was confused at parts but after a while you start to realize that the mystery of who the people are fit into the story.

Overall, The Young City was a wonderful book full of mystery, suspense, and just enough romance. This is going on my shelf as something I might wish to reread later on. If you haven't heard of this series before you should definitely check it out for a fun, easy read!

The Young City can be ordered here.

Chapter One of The Hollow!!!

Summary:
When Abbey’s best friend, Kristen, vanishes at the bridge near Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, everyone else is all too quick to accept that Kristen is dead…and rumors fly that her death was no accident. Abbey has never felt so desperately alone. Then she meets Caspian, the gorgeous and mysterious boy who shows up out of nowhere at Kristen’s funeral, and keeps reappearing in Abbey’s life. Caspian clearly has secrets of his own, but he’s the only person who makes Abbey feel normal again...but also special.

Just when Abbey starts to feel that she might survive all this, she learns a secret that makes her question everything she thought she knew about her best friend. How could Kristen have kept silent about so much? And could this secret have led to her death? As Abbey struggles to understand Kristen’s betrayal, she uncovers a frightening truth that nearly unravels her—one that will challenge her emerging love for Caspian, as well as her own sanity.

Jessica Verday was kind enough to give us a sneak peek at her upcoming release, The Hollow. I have wanted this book ever since I saw the cover months ago and read the summary. I mean, who wouldn't be drawn in by a synopsis like that?

The Hollow will be released on September 1 from Simon Pulse and you can read the first chapter here.

Fathom Five

Book: Fathom Five by James Bow (The Unwritten Books #2)

Rating: 4 Stars

Release Date: April 30, 2007

Summary:

On the surface, Peter McAllister has a good life: a good school, good friends, good times. So what if his best friend is a girl -- and sort of a geek? And so what if she might be more than a friend.

Underneath, it's a different story. It's been years since the death of his parents landed him in this small town with his hardly-there uncle, but he still feels as if his life in Clarksbury is just an inch deep. Does he really belong? Only Rosemary seems real. But that reality comes crashing down the first time he kisses her -- and she rejects him.

Then a mysterious woman named Fiona appears. She tells him he's a changeling -- a fairy child left to live in the human world -- and that it's time to come home. Can Rosemary convince him that Fiona is lying? Or is it possible that Fiona is telling the truth?

Overall:

Peter MacAllister is alone. Sure he has friends and he has Rosemary but none of them are who he really needs. He needs a family. His uncle is the only relative he has left and most of the time he isn't even there. Ever since his parents died, it has seemed like nobody cared about him.

That is, except Rosemary. Peter really thought he and Rosemary had something and that she wanted to take it to the next level. Boy was he wrong. When he kisses her everything seems fine until she pulls away and tells him that she doesn't want to ruin theie friendship. After that Peter realizes that nobody actually loves him.

Peter has almost given up hope when Fiona shows up. Fiona was his old babysitter before his parents died and she has some shokcing news for him. He's not human and he has a family waiting for him in another world. Peter finally thinks things will work out but then something happens. Rosemary gets pulled into the other world with him, a world where she doesn't belong.

Will Rosemary be able to save Peter and bring him back home? Will she finally discover her real feelings for him or will it be too late?

In this sequel to The Unwritten Girl, James Bow brings back his two wondeful characters, older and wiser. Three years after their first adventure, Rosemary and Peter are still best friends but they aren't alone anymore. Rosemary is no longer the nerd who gets picked on and Peter is no longer the new kid. They have new friends, including some of the bullies that used to pick on Rosemary and led to her and Peter's introduction.

The story in Fathom Five was amazing. It was something so original and unlike anything I have read before. I thought that the first book was very unique and that James Bow would not be able to top that but he has with Fathom Five. Full of sirens, mermaids and mermen, and of course, humans.

I thought that at first I wasn't going to get a ton of background on the other characters but James Bow did not leave me hanging. All my questions about the characters were answered without being written too plainly. The details in the book were wonderful and I absolutely loved how vivid the characters were, even the bad ones.

Fathom Five could be a stand alone book. There is no need to read The Unwritten Girl to understand what is going on in this one. I'm not saying you shouldn't read it but if this one appeals to you more, there is no reason to read the first.

So far I have loved both of The Unwritten Books and I am just now starting the third and final book, at least for now. If you are interested in romance and the paranormal, see if you can find a copy of Fathom Five.

Fathom Five can be ordered here.

So, I noticed this on Goodreads the other day and that the cover was finally released. Doesn't it look great? I just love how simple it is and I really want to read it. It sounds great and I am definitely adding it to my list of great books that are going to be released in 2010!

The Unwritten Girl

Book: The Unwritten Girl by James Bow

Rating: 4 Stars

Release Date: April 1, 2006

Summary:

Rosemary Watson lives in the small town of Clarksbury, where news travels fast and gossip sticks around. Years before, her brother Theo suffered a nervous breakdown, and Rosemary, now entering junior high, is constantly teased about it. She wonders if she might go crazy like her brother, and she feels guilty for not being able to save him. She tries to hide in books, but even there she's uneasy: she can't stand to see characters suffer. She's happiest in the cool world of fact and figures.

Rosemary and Peter - the new kid in school with issues of his own - are thrown together, and soon find themselves on a life-or-death quest to rescue Rosemary's brother, who has lost himself in a book. With the help of Peter and her guide, faerie shape-shifter Puck, Rosemary must face the storybook perils of the Land of Fiction and learn to open her heart, before it is too late.

Overall:

Rosemary Watson is compassionate. In fact, she is so compassionate that half the time she can't even finish a book for fear of what might happen to the characters. When the going gets tough, Rosemary gets going.

Rosemary never really thought it mattered whether or not she finished a book. That is, until the characters decided to get revenge on the girl who left them frozen in the worst moment of their lives.

Will Rosemary be able to appease the characters and save her brother from the land of fiction or will she be stuck there for the rest of her days?

I had no clue what to expect when I started this book. I had never read anything by James Bow or even a review about his books before reading The Unwritten Girl. To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement.

I loved The Unwritten Girl. It was a whole different type of story than I have ever read before. The whole book was about reading and connecting with the characters of a story. I can totally relate to Rosemary which is why I think I liked the book so much. Rosemary can't always finish books because she doesn't want something bad to happen to the characters. I have never not finished a book because of that but I can understand why she did. You put yourself in the book and you don't want something bad to happen.

In The Unwritten Girl, Rosemary is actually transported into a book to save her older brother. The book is full of good, bad, funny, and sad characters. Also, all the characters are characters of the books of Rosemary's past. Puck is her guide through the Land of Fiction and Peter is her protector.

Overall, I was very pleased with The Unwritten Girl and I am just about to start the second book of the trilogy, Fathom Five. I definitely recommend this for book-lovers which is pretty much anyone who reads my blog. =]

The Unwritten Girl can be ordered here.

Changes!!!

Okay so if you tried to visit my blog this afternoon it was undergoing some very major changes and I am so sorry if it looked really weird for you. Tina from FANTASTIC BOOK REVIEW was amazing and helped me get this great three column layout. After that it was a little hard for me to find a layout that I actually liked and that fit well.

I hate to say this but I might have to make some more changes sometime soon if not today. I'm not sure that this the layout I really want but I figured I should set one so the whole page didn't look messed up. If I can find one that I love I will change it but right now I am still searching.

I just wanted to let everyone know what was going on with the backgrounds. Sorry for all the changes but I should have a set layout by tomorrow and I will try to get a header soon, too. Thanks for understanding and go visit Tina's site. It's great and she is so wonderful!

Lovely Lemonade Award!

Yay! I got an award from Kim at The Book Butterfly. If you haven't already checked out her blog, it is really good. She has only been blogging for a short time but she has a ton of posts already. Here are the rules:
1. Put the logo on your blog or post.
2. Nominate at least 10 blogs which show great Attitude and/or Gratitude!
3. Be sure to link to your nominees within your post.
4. Let them know that they have received this award by commenting on their blog.
5. Share the love and link to this post and to the person from whom you received your award.

So, for my nominees:
-Korianne from Korianne Speaks
-Vania from Reverie Book Reviews
-Amber from Just Your Typical Book Blog
-Lauren from Lauren's Crammed Bookshelf
-Shalonda from Shalonda's Blog
-Liyana from Liyanaland!
-Genevieve from Genevieve's Blog
-Tina from FANTASTIC BOOK REVIEW
-Lauren from Shooting Stars Mag
-{Insert Book Title Here}

Okay so those are my ten nominees and I will be leaving comments to let everyone know they were nominated. Also, do I really need to say why I chose these ten? They are all so amazing, that's why!
